In the grounds of the Geschina municipal swimming pool in Brig, the art piece ‘Bergmaler’ extends over 150 m\u00b2, engaging in a subtle dialogue between art, water and the surrounding mountains. The Brig-born artist has created a mural that reflects her personal connection with this place, where she grew up and learned to swim. Characters suspended from ropes seem to float above the walls, creating a striking play of perspectives: as you move around the mural, they give the impression of hanging from the actual buildings surrounding the pool. <\/p>\n
The painted mountains, stylized in large flat areas of mineral color, evoke the Alpine peaks surrounding Brig. These colors are not chosen at random; they draw their inspiration from the minerals in the mountains, but also from the town’s specific palette, thus linking the art piece to the local visual heritage. This interplay between abstraction and reality prompts the viewer to look up, compare the mural with the real mountains and become aware of the surroundings. <\/p>\n
The theme of water is omnipresent, although not explicitly depicted. The pastel shades evoke both the water in the pool, a symbol of play and pleasure, and the snowy peaks above. In this way, the artist plays on sensations, creating a light, contemplative atmosphere in which water becomes a thread linking landscape and human experience. <\/p>\n
With the ‘Bergmaler’ mural, Helga Zumstein brings together play, contemplation and interaction with the landscape, in a space where generations cross paths. Her art becomes a bridge between nature and architecture, offering a new perspective to every viewer. <\/p>\n
