In the heart of H\u00e9r\u00e9mence, the mural “Les Moissonneuses” unfolds the history of the village like a living tapestry, woven from ancestral symbols. The bread, surrounded by ears of wheat and bunches of grapes, embodies the deep roots of a land where mountain and plain meet. <\/p>\n
In the past, cereals, grown at altitude, flourished on these slopes, while the plain, marshy and untamed by the Rh\u00f4ne, remained inhospitable. Wheat and rye, sources of life, had such a high market value that they even made it possible to acquire vineyards on the plains, thus forging economic links between the heights and the valley. <\/p>\n
In this mural, Jasm One pays tribute to this history and these vital exchanges, while celebrating the crucial role of the women of H\u00e9r\u00e9mensard. Inspired by the famous painting “Les laveuses” (1907) by Raphy Dall\u00e8ves, they are the guardians of daily life, having taken charge of the village during the construction of the Grande Dixence dam, when the men were away working on this 20th century building site. Figures of endurance and resilience, they remind us that the village’s destiny often rested on their shoulders. <\/p>\n
By revisiting the artistic heritage of the Savi\u00e8se School, Jasm One brings these traditions into the present. His mural, both homage and reinvention, links generations and invites visitors to plunge into the living history of H\u00e9r\u00e9mence, where wheat, vines and women have ensured the village’s survival and prosperity through the ages. <\/p>\n
