Solomostry

Milan / Italy

Solomostry is an Italian artist who joined the graffiti movement in Milan in 2000, when he was just 14. At the time, the Milan underground was covered with wild graffiti on walls and signs, as well as tags. He was immediately fascinated by this phenomenon. In his early days, he was part of three different crews and practiced graffiti writing for the next five years.

When he began collaborating as a set designer on techno club nights, he realized that graffiti writing was not a suitable subject for his artistic expression. He then began to create a character who would come to life during these techno nights in Milan’s clubs: SOLOMOSTRY. The artist began drawing his first large monsters at the back of the stage, overlooking the crowd dancing until the early hours of the morning. A monster born of darkness and techno music.

Solomostry is Italian for “only monsters”. A monochrome monster made up of lines with imposing, fixed eyes. Solomostry is not only the main character in the artist’s works, it’s also his pseudonym. Solomostry has a degree in graphic design and art direction.
and works from his studio in Milan.

In Solomosty’s artistic practice, the streets represent the place where he discovered a unique art form as well as a kind of playground where he dares new techniques, new tools and new ideas without any rules. Freedom in the street means a lot to him. In the studio, he reflects and digests what he has just experienced on the street, and tries to put it into practice and manifest it in his studio paintings.

Solomostry draws its inspiration from whatever catches its eye. He is inspired by the street itself, its inhabitants, friends, loved ones and rivals. He is convinced that travel, but also information and sensory experience are sources of inspiration – always ongoing.
