The art piece

With the work ‘Mouflon’, the Lucerne artist duo has seized on the local symbol to address the importance of water and the ability to adapt to an arid environment.

The mouflon is a wild horned animal from the sheep family. It is found specifically at high altitude in the wide open spaces of the Vionnaz commune. This symbol of local heritage has the particularity of being able to live on very little water and/or remain for long periods without any. Wild and discreet, it epitomizes the Valais character and the expression of an alpine environment as majestic as it is awe-inspiring.

Through their universe, the artists have captured and transcribed the essence of the local alpine and environmental figure. Their choice of colors and pictorial treatment of the animal combine realism and spontaneity of gesture to deliver a composition focused on the balance of the elements (earth and water) and biomimicry (inspiration from the mouflon for its ability to adapt to the arid environment).

Placed at the start of the road leading to the Torgon resort, this painting invites us to discover the wild alpine peaks of this wonderful region. This fresco is part of the Eau cantonal route of the OPEN AIR MUSEUM Art Valais, as well as the communal collection of Natur’art works to be discovered in Vionnaz.
