The art piece
At the heart of the Sport Arena in Leukerbad, a large-scale mural entitled ‘Waves & Wild’ transforms the Pump Park enclosure. This striking art piece, spanning almost 150m², brilliantly blends urban energy with the majesty of the surrounding nature.
The mural unfolds in two distinct sections, each bearing the signature of Swiss and international graffiti artists. The main section, a collaboration between Tymour Azzam, Bandi and Alain Dumont of the EP crew, exploits the fluidity of wildstyle graffiti to symbolize the dynamics of Pump Park. Like an avalanche of paint, an imposing wave spills over the wall, evoking both the omnipresence of water in Leukerbad and the power of the natural elements. Light, sparkling bubbles appear throughout the art piece, evoking the soothing swirls of thermal waters, while adding a breath of lightness and vitality to the composition.
As a counterpoint, Portuguese artist Virus makes his mark on the adjacent wall. His massive, stylized white graffiti letters stand out against a background rich in striking, futuristic detail. The cascade of elements invites exploration of a captivating landscape. This part of the composition closes the work, creating a visual bridge between the alpine environment and the urbanity of the site.
Waves & Wild’ perfectly embodies the fusion of urban and wild, capturing the very essence of Leukerbad. This vibrant art piece celebrates movement, water and power, while illustrating the harmonious coexistence of sport, wellness and nature that characterizes this alpine resort.
